Srinagar: After a few hours of rain in Srinagar, roads in and around Lal Chowk which are going through renovation turned muddy and slippery.
Commuters, especially two wheelers, had a tough time riding through the slippery road in the heart of the city on Wednesday.
A video which went viral on social media shows female commuters falling from a scooty. As a passerby tries to help the falling duo, he too falls on the road.
People thronging the commercial hub of Lal Chowk have voiced their displeasure over the dilapidated condition of the roads.
Stating that the “filthy execution” of the Smart City projects has left Srinagar’s commercial hub in a pool of mud, Regal Chowk Traders Association (RCTA) has raised concerns over loss of business and road safety.
RCTA president Fartan Kitab while seeking the intervention of the Raj Bhawan said before the wet spell the entire business hub was a dustbowl and that the wet spell has converted it into pool of mud and slush.
He said the road was very slippery enough to lead to accidents adding that Traffic Police should pass advisory in this regard.
He said given the dust and slush the shoppers prefer to stay away from the marketplace thereby affecting the business in the entire area since last summers.
He said such development projects are executed across the country but that nowhere is the execution so haphazard and messy.
