Srinagar: There always exists a risk of gas cylinder blast in one’s premises. Any such unfortunate event may lead to injuries or even death besides damage to the household property.
But, not many could be aware of the fact there exists insurance against injuries, death and property damage arising out of gas cylinder blast.
There is an LPG gas insurance policy of the nature of group insurance cover taken by the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and even by the dealers.
This LPG gas insurance policy is similar to group insurance cover that is obtained by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and even dealers across India. OMCs such as Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) purchase comprehensive insurance policies under the ‘Public Liability Policy for Oil Industries’ in order to provide immediate relief to victims of LPG-related accidents. It applies to all LPG customers who have registered with OMCs.
Who Are Covered?
OMCs’ Public Liability Insurance Policy covers losses resulting from incidents in which LPG is the major cause of the fire, but not in situations where the primary cause of the fire is another source/reason in which LPG cylinders become consumed and explode. The policy now allows for the following:
(i)I Personal accident insurance coverage of Rs 6,00,000/- per individual in the event of death.
(ii) Covers up to Rs 30 lakh in medical expenditures per event, with a limit of Rs 2,000,000/- per individual.
(iii) In the event of property damage, it covers a maximum of Rs2,00,000/- per occurrence at authorised customer’s registered premises.
How To Claim?
1. In the event of an accident, the distributor must be notified in writing by the victim or victim’s family as soon as possible.
2. The distributor then notifies the relevant Oil/Gas Company and Insurance Company.
3. The Oil/Gas Companies assist the customer concerned or the next of kin in completing the processes of insurance claims originating from the accident.
4. In addition to the foregoing, all LPG distributors have Third Party Liability Insurance in place to cover losses in the case of an LPG accident.
