Srinagar: Jamia Masjid Srinagar has been locked down by the authorities on Friday ahead of the Jummat ul Wida prayers, Anjuman Auqaf commitee Jamia Masjid said.
In a statement, the committee said that the grand mosque was locked up by the authorities and it was also informed that the prayers will not be allowed at the historical mosque.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz e Kashmir, Molvi Mohammad Umar Farooq has been placed under house arrest, as per the committee.
The restrictions come on the day of Quds, which marks a global solidarity campaign with the people of Palestine.
“Jummat ul Wida prayers have not been allowed at the mosque for the last five years,” they said.
Jummat ul wida marks the last Friday of Ramadan which holds huge significance for Muslims throughout the world.
