Srinagar: A CCTV image has surfaced showing a militant, clad in a Pheran, allegedly involved in the Gagangir attack in Jammu Kashmir.
However, investigators have yet to confirm if this individual carried out the October 20 attack, which claimed seven lives.
Sources indicate the footage shows the militant, armed with an AK rifle, entering a prefabricated hut believed to be at the Gagangir tunnel construction site, where six non-local laborers were among the victims.
However, the authenticity of the image is under scrutiny, with investigators noting that the footage bears a ‘January 27’ timestamp, likely due to a technical error.
The rifle in the footage has a distinctive blue marking on its muzzle, similar to those used in past attacks in the Pir Panjal region, about 200 km away.
Officials also highlighted discrepancies, as the assailant in the video has an uncovered face, while survivors had reported that the attackers were masked.
A senior police official cautioned against premature conclusions, noting that the investigation is ongoing and sensitive.
The attack has reignited concerns over security at key construction sites in the region.
