Srinagar: The serene mornings of Kashmir Valley, once alive with the melodious chirping of sparrows, mynas, and other birds, have fallen silent over the years. These avian species, once a hallmark of the valley’s natural beauty, are now teetering on the brink of disappearance. The dawn chorus, a vital symbol of life, has become an increasingly rare phenomenon.
Experts attribute this alarming decline to the radiation emitted by mobile towers. The technology used for mobile communication, while essential for humans, is having a profound impact on the lives of birds.
Environmental experts explain that electromagnetic waves from mobile towers disrupt the navigation systems of birds, causing them to lose their way or face difficulties in reproduction. Additionally, factors such as environmental pollution and deforestation are contributing to the dwindling bird population.
An official from the Department of Wildlife stated, “In the past, mornings in the valley were incomplete without the chirping of sparrows and other birds. Their absence has left a noticeable void in the natural environment.”
Experts are calling for urgent attention to this issue and urging the adoption of measures to mitigate the impact. They recommend considering environmental effects when installing mobile towers and improving technology to reduce harmful radiation.
Concerned citizens are also demanding immediate action from the government to protect birdlife and restore the valley’s natural charm and biodiversity. (CNS)
