Drone-Missile Attack From Pakistan Neutralised: Defense Ministry

Srinagar: Indian military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur were targeted on Thursday by drones and missiles of Pakistani origin.

The attempted strike, involving drones and missiles, triggered blackouts and sirens across several areas in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan.

The attacks occurred along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir and were swiftly countered by the Indian defence forces using a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic measures, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Defence.

The Ministry’s Directorate of Public Relations, through its official handle @SpokespersonMoD, confirmed the attempted strike and reassured that there were no casualties or material losses. “The threats were swiftly neutralised using kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities in line with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),” the statement read.

The Defence Ministry added that all Indian military units remain on high alert, and the country is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and safeguard its citizens.

Security officials are currently analysing the recovered debris to trace the exact flight paths and technological origin of the drones and missiles used in the assault, reports said.

Jammu plunged into darkness with electricity snapped soon after two powerful explosions were heard in the vicinity of the airport. Later, electricity was snapped across Jammu and Kashmir as a precautionary measure.

The border areas of Jammu and Kashmir are now under complete blackout. Blackouts have also been declared in Ferozepur and Gurudaspur in Punjab and parts of Rajasthan, another state that shares a border with Pakistan.

The Pakistani military opened up artillery fire in Punjab’s Pathankot in a major escalation of hostilities this evening. Pathankot is about 30 km from the International Border and serves as the entry point to Jammu region and Himachal Pradesh.

A blackout was enforced in Pathankot and Amritsar too. District authorities have said there was no need to panic. They asked people to keep their lights switched off and stay at home.

Heavy shelling is already in progress at the International Border at Samba, Akhnoor, Rajouri and Reasi.
