New Delhi: Domestic cooking gas has become costlier across the country including Jammu and Kashmir after oil marketing companies announced a ₹29 increase in the price of a standard 14.2 kg LPG cylinder, adding to the financial burden on households already grappling with rising living costs.

The revised rates will come into effect from June 7, with consumers expected to pay higher prices for domestic LPG cylinders across various cities. According to reports, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has been increased from ₹913 to ₹942.

The latest revision marks the second increase in domestic LPG prices within the last three months and comes at a time when inflation and household expenses continue to remain key concerns for families across the country.

Industry sources indicated that retail prices may vary slightly from one city to another depending on local taxes, transportation charges and other factors. However, the ₹29 increase will broadly apply to domestic consumers nationwide.

The hike is expected to have a direct impact on household budgets, particularly among middle-income and lower-income families that rely on LPG as their primary cooking fuel.

The increase has also triggered political reactions, with opposition parties likely to target the government over the rising cost of essential commodities and cooking fuel.

Consumer groups have expressed concern over repeated revisions in cooking gas prices, arguing that higher fuel costs ultimately place additional pressure on family finances.

The latest increase comes amid continuing debates over inflation management and affordability of essential household commodities.

With the revised rates becoming effective from June 7, consumers across India will now have to pay more for one of the most commonly used household necessities. [KNT]
