Srinagar: All government and recognised private schools across Jammu and Kashmir will reopen on Monday, July 27, as scheduled, with no further extension of the summer vacation, following a marked improvement in weather conditions, officials said on Sunday.
A senior official in the School Education Department said the government has decided not to extend the vacation further and that all schools across the Union Territory will resume classes from Monday.
An official in the office of Education Minister Sakina Itoo also confirmed that schools across Jammu and Kashmir will reopen as scheduled.
The government had initially announced summer vacations from July 6 to July 19 for all schools in the Kashmir Division and the winter zones of the Jammu Division.
On July 18, the vacation was extended until July 22 due to the prevailing heatwave and an adverse weather forecast. The Education Minister had said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Following heavy rainfall, flash flood warnings and continued inclement weather, the government again extended the vacation until July 26 for schools in the Kashmir Division and winter zones of the Jammu Division. Schools in the Jammu Division also remained closed during the period.
The extension followed a forecast by the Meteorological Department warning of heavy rainfall and possible flash floods between July 20 and July 23, prompting precautionary measures by the administration.
Officials said the earlier decision to reopen schools on Monday remains unchanged as weather conditions have improved across the region. All educational institutions have been directed to resume normal academic activities from Monday.
