Srinagar: A 46-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a minor girl in Srinagar.
The accused identified as Mohd Iqbal Sheikh, son of Ghulam Qadir Sheikh, a resident of Sogam Kupwara, is a relative of a victim child.
The incident happened in Pamposh Colony of Srinagar, where the accused is presently staying.
“One Mohd Iqbal Sheikh (46 years) S/o Ghulam Qadir Sheikh R/o Kanthpora, Sogam Kupwara presently staying in Pamposh Colony, Srinagar arrested for raping a minor 15 year old girl,” Srinagar Police tweeted.
The accused has been held under first information report number 92/2023 U/S 352,376,506 of the Indian Penal Code and 3/4 Protection of Child from Sexual Offence in Police Station Safakadal.
Pertinently, Kashmir is witnessing a rise in rape and harasment incidents.
