Srinagar: In the wake of relentless rains and fierce winds, tragedy struck the remote village of Kunderdhan Mohra in Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir, claiming the lives of a woman and her three young daughters.

The devastating incident occurred as their humble ‘kutcha’ house succumbed to the force of nature’s fury, collapsing under the weight of heavy rainfall.

Identified as Phalla Akhter, aged 30, along with her daughters Nasima (5), Safeena Kousar (3), and Samreen Kousar (2), met a tragic end when their residence crumbled amidst the raging storm. The family’s plight was further compounded as two elderly members, Kalu (60) and his wife Bano Begum (58), sustained injuries amid the chaos.

Rescue teams, braving adverse weather conditions, swiftly moved into action to retrieve the bodies from the debris, a grim task that highlighted the severity of the situation. The injured were promptly rushed to the nearest medical facilities for urgent treatment, marking a desperate bid to mitigate the human toll of the catastrophe.

The heart-wrenching incident in Reasi was not an isolated one, as reports emerged of widespread destruction wreaked by the unforgiving weather across various parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Incessant rains and gusty winds unleashed havoc, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake.

In separate incidents, two lives were lost, and several others were injured, as structures succumbed to the relentless onslaught of nature’s wrath. Suhunksha Devi, a resident of Batmas-Changa village in Bhalesa, perished tragically, while her brother sustained injuries when their dwelling collapsed amidst the ferocious windstorm in Doda district.

Besides, a fuel tanker driver met a fatal end when his vehicle veered off course and collided with a hillside in Moud Passi, Udhampur district, amidst treacherous road conditions exacerbated by heavy rain. Meanwhile, in Rajouri district, six individuals suffered injuries when a passenger bus bore the brunt of a boulder dislodged by the tempestuous weather.

Educational institutions and public infrastructure were not spared from the havoc, with school buildings and a health centre in various tehsils bearing the brunt of the destructive winds. The landscape bore witness to a scene of chaos and destruction, with rooftops torn asunder and structures left in ruins.
