Srinagar: The Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gulmarg has issued a travel advisory following fresh snowfall to ensure safe and hassle-free travel on the Gulmarg-Tangmarg road.

The advisory addresses challenges posed by slippery roads and heavy snowfall, which often lead to accidents and traffic congestion. A copy of the advisory, obtained by Kashmir Newsville, outlines several measures to enhance commuter safety.

Key Guidelines:

Restricted Vehicle Movement: Only 4×4 vehicles or those equipped with anti-skid chains are allowed to travel between Tangmarg and Gulmarg until the ice on the road melts.

Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs): Only LMVs with a seating capacity of 10 or fewer seats are permitted on this route to minimize traffic jams and vehicle breakdowns.

Anti-Skid Chain Installation: Registered vendors can install anti-skid chains on vehicles at designated parking areas to avoid disruptions. The installation rate has been fixed at ₹600 per pair.

Designated Parking: Tour operators and private vehicle owners must use designated parking spaces at Tangmarg to prevent roadside congestion.

Regulation of Vendors: Coat and boot vendors have been directed to avoid crowding the roads to attract tourists, as this leads to inconvenience and traffic blockages.

The SDM emphasized strict adherence to these measures for the safety of commuters and tourists. For any further queries, individuals can contact the SDM office via email at [email protected].
