Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted raids at multiple locations in the Kashmir valley, including at the residences of former Hurriyat chief Abdul Gani Bhat, as part of its investigations into activities of proscribed organisations, officials said on Wednesday.
The searches were conducted over two days at multiple locations in the Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag.
Authorities revealed that the raids were linked to banned organizations, including the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (Bhat Group), Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (Masrat Alam Group), and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (Shabir Shah Group). The operation focused on individuals allegedly connected to these organizations and their involvement in unlawful activities.
According to police officials, the searches were carried out with proper legal sanction and included the residences of key separatist leaders from various locations in Srinagar, including Rajbagh, Habba Kadal, Batamaloo, Khanyar, Lal Bazar, and Chanpora.
The searches were executed in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses, ensuring the legal integrity of the operation. Among the homes targeted were those of separatist leaders such as Masrat Alam, Shabir Shah, and Professor Abdul Gani.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the operation was linked to ongoing investigations in several FIRs.
The raids targeted individuals associated with these banned organizations, including Masrat Alam Bhat from Zaindar Mohalla, Habba Kadal, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat (alias Gugga) from Batmaloo, and others. Specific locations raided include the residences of Ghulam Nabi Wagay and Feroz Ahmad Khan from Khanyar, Mohammad Nazir Khan from Koolipora, Hakeem Abdul Rashid from Botakadal, and Javaid Ahmad Munshi (alias Bilpapa) from Methan, Chanpora.
The searches were carried out after securing warrants from the Special Judge designated under the NIA Act in Srinagar. The police spokesperson emphasized that the raids were part of a broader effort to dismantle the remnants of the secessionist ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The investigation aims to identify and take legal action against individuals engaged in unlawful activities, ensuring that such networks are disrupted,” the spokesperson added.
