Srinagar: Amid continuous heavy rainfall and rising public concern, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, on Sunday dismissed rumors of a fuel shortage, assuring that the situation is under control and being closely monitored by the administration.
“There is no shortage of petrol, and the situation is being monitored regularly,” Bidhuri said. “There’s absolutely no need to rush to petrol pumps. People should not panic.”
As per official data, the Kashmir Valley currently holds 5,205 kilolitres of Motor Spirit (Petrol), enough to meet demand for 17 days under normal consumption. Diesel (HSD) reserves stand at 12,735 kilolitres—sufficient for 26 days.
These figures were issued after reports of panic buying emerged at certain fuel stations, triggered by persistent rains and temporary road blockades across parts of the Valley.
Jammu and Kashmir has experienced intermittent rainfall over the past few days, leading to waterlogging, blocked roads, and increased fears of landslides. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm, avoid panic purchases, and follow safety advisories.(JKNS)
