Srinagar: The auto-rickshaw drivers from various parts of Srinagar on Monday held a protest against the “haphazard movement” of e-rickshaws in the city. They urged the RTO Kashmir to allot them proper routers.
The protesting auto-rickshaw drivers raised slogans demanding “justice”.
“Our auto rickshaws have been plying on Srinagar streets since 1975. However, since the last one and a half years, when the e-rickshaws got introduced, we have suffered a lot,” they said.
“Initially, these e-rickshaws were very less in number and the authorities said they will ply only on those routers where bus and other connectivity services are very less in number. But now they are seen everywhere, causing inconvenience for us,” the auto-rickshaw drivers said.
“These e-rickshaws are ferrying our load too, and we are helpless,” they said, adding, “We urge the authorities to look into the matter and give us a route permit.”—(KNO)
