Authorities Issue Advisory To Prevent Fire Incidents In J&K

Ensure all electrical heating gadgets are unplugged and stoves, bukharies, LGP cooking gas stoves are switched off properly, before going to bed or leaving the room or home, they said

Srinagar: In view of dry weather conditions and rise in fire incidents, Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, J&K today issued advisory to guide general masses to remain vigilant during the ongoing harsh winter season and take precautionary measures to prevent fire incidents.

The officials advised general masses to ensure that all electrical heating gadgets are unplugged and stoves, bukharies, LGP cooking gas stoves are switched off properly, before going to bed or leaving the room or home.

They said use kangris with utmost care. Keep kangris at safe places during nights to avoid its toppling. Avoid storage of dry grass, rejection wood etc in residential houses. Store this combustible material in isolated places away from residential houses.

The official also said to refrain from using faulty/sub-standard electoral appliances, high wattage electrical room heaters, defective electrical blankets etc, which can result in short circuits and ultimately lead to fire incidents.

Use good quality fuses of correct, rating, miniature circuit breakers (MCB) and earth leakage circuit breaker. Keep the electric wire away from the hot and wet surfaces, they said.

They asked general public to stay in the kitchen while cooking. If you leave the kitchen even for a shorter period of time, turn off the stove. Also switch off the LPG cylinder and stove knob, when not in use. Proper ventilation should be ensured while using LPG heaters.

They added to keep all escape routes and water access points clear, especially in residential and market areas. Do not through live cigarette butts carelessly.

In case of any fire incident, immediately call Fire & Emergency Services Toll Free No. 101, Control Room Srinagar No’s: 0194-2452155, 2452222; Control Room Jammu No’s: 0191-2457705, 2435283, or nearest Fire Station, the officials in an advisory said.
