Srinagar: The Jal Shakti (PHE) Rural Water Supply Division Ganderbal has issued a public notice warning residents about the contamination of spring water in the district.
A recent random sampling and testing drive revealed that 37 out of 40 spring water samples collected from various locations tested bacteriologically positive, making them unsafe for human consumption.
The residents of Ganderbal and rural Srinagar, where spring water is commonly used for drinking, have been advised to refrain from using it until further notice. Instead, they are urged to use tap water for drinking purposes.
However, if residents must use spring water, the authorities strongly recommend boiling it for a prolonged period to ensure safety.
The notice has been widely circulated, and additionally, posters will be placed at spring water sources, and public announcements will be made in mosques and temples to spread awareness.
The directive, signed by Executive Engineer Er. Samiullah Beigh, emphasizes the urgent need for public cooperation in preventing waterborne diseases.
