Srinagar: Security forces have launched a massive operation in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district following the targeted killing of a retired army man, officials said on Tuesday.
The attack took place late Monday evening in the Behibagh area when unidentified gunmen opened fire on Manzoor Ahmad, a retired army personnel. He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed. His wife and daughter were also injured in the attack.
In response, security forces have initiated a large-scale search operation in the village and surrounding areas. Personnel are combing dense orchards, residential zones, and suspected hideouts, with drones and sniffer dogs deployed to assist in tracking the assailants.
Officials confirmed that hundreds of villagers and residents from adjoining hamlets have been detained for questioning. Preliminary investigations suggest the attackers may have received logistical support from local contacts.
