Lahore: In a thrilling encounter, New Zealand edged past South Africa by 50 runs in the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
David miller played an innings of a lifetime, scoring a blistering century but couldn’t get South Africa over the line as they fell 50 runs short of New Zealand’s set target. The Kiwis will now go on to Dubai to meet India in the final on March 9.
The Kiwis posted a competitive total of 362/6, with Rachin Ravindra (108) and Kane Williamson (102) scoring centuries. The South African bowling attack, led by Lungi Ngidi (3/72), struggled to contain the New Zealand batsmen.
In response, South Africa’s batting lineup, spearheaded by skipper Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, and David Miller, put up a formidable fight. However, the Proteas ultimately fell short, with New Zealand’s bowlers, led by Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips, holding their nerve to secure the win. Eventually, South Africa were restricted to 312/9.
Earlier, On the back of centuries from Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra New Zealand has posted 362/6 whic was enough for them to reach the final. They’ll now look to exact some measure of revenge against the Rohit Sharma-led side who had handed them their only loss in the tournament last Sunday.
