Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) on Thursday issued an advisory for residents living in and around Dal Lake, including houseboat owners, in view of rising water levels in River Jhelum.
Officials said the Jhelum has crossed the danger mark of 21 feet and, as part of emergency management measures, the gate at Ram Munshi Bagh may be opened at any time to regulate the flow.
They said the move could cause a further rise in the water level of Dal Lake, which currently stands at 10.5 feet, posing risk to lake dwellers and houseboat owners.
The LCMA has urged residents to take all precautionary measures and remain prepared for possible evacuation. People have also been advised to stay alert and shift to relief centres identified by the District Administration, Srinagar, if the need arises.
