Srinagar: The higher reaches of Kashmir witnessed the season’s first snowfall on Monday, while intermittent rains lashed the plains, leading to a further drop in temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir.
Fresh snow covered several high-altitude areas including Affarwat in Gulmarg, Sinthan Top, Zojila Pass, Gumri, Minimarg, and Razdan Top, the gateway to Gurez Valley.
Light snowfall was reported at Razdan Top early in the morning, adding to the chill in the upper regions.
According to weather officials, a western disturbance is expected to bring more rain and snow to parts of Jammu and Kashmir from October 5 to 7. Light rainfall was also recorded in Srinagar and nearby areas, while moderate showers occurred in the plains of North and South Kashmir.
The shift in weather has brought cheer to locals and tourists, who view it as the arrival of winter. Authorities have urged travelers to exercise caution, particularly in higher reaches, as the mercury continues to fall and roads become slippery.
