Mirwaiz Condemns Public Violation of Woman’s Dignity by Bihar CM
FBXWhatsappEmail

Srinagar: While addressing the Friday congregation at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir and the head of Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema Dr. Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, strongly condemned the act of the Bihar Chief Minister pulling off the veil of a woman doctor, describing it as a grave violation of personal dignity and moral boundaries.

The Mirwaiz emphasized that when dignity is violated in public—particularly by someone in authority it sends a deeply troubling message that power can override ethics and basic human values.

He said that no position of authority, power, or office grants the right to interfere with another person’s self-respect.

Mirwaiz expressed regret that instead of apologising for his actions, certain political parties and sections of the media are attempting to justify the act of the Bihar CM by mischaracterizing it as an issue of “women’s empowerment”, deliberately dragging the debate into the question of hijab (veil).

“Such diversions are mischievous, and further expose the bigoted mindset of those indulging in it and their limited understanding of Islam,” he said.

Mirwaiz said that for Muslim women who observe hijab, it is a matter of faith, identity, and personal choice which has never been a barrier to education, professional excellence, or social contribution as is being deliberately implied to justify the CMs actions.

He pointed out that women who observe hijab have, across the world made outstanding achievements in every sphere of life, proving that empowerment lies in equal opportunity and hard work, not in the manner of dressing.

Mirwaiz said that propriety demands that the CM of Bihar apologise to the woman for his actions and those indulging in these ridiculous justifications stop imposing ideological labels or justifying acts under the garb of so-called “progress”.
