Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against the director of a private company for allegedly duping around 1,300 youths in Kashmir by collecting registration fees on the false promise of jobs and monthly salaries, officials said.
EOW filed a chargesheet in FIR No. 04/2022 under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC before the Court of Sub-Judge, Sumbal, against Ranjeet Prasad, son of Samdeo Prasad, a resident of Maksudpur, Gopalganj district, Bihar.
The case stems from a written complaint alleging that True Dreams Project India Pvt. Ltd. (TDPI), through its director Ranjeet Prasad, carried out a recruitment drive in Kashmir in which around 1,300 trainees were engaged through company representatives. The trainees were allegedly promised monthly salaries ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹12,000 but were instead asked to deposit ₹2,400 each as a registration fee. Despite collecting the money, no salaries were paid.
Investigations revealed that several innocent students were allegedly cheated and defrauded under the pretext of providing tuition and employment opportunities. The probe, supported by oral and documentary evidence, found the charges under Sections 420 and 120-B IPC to be established against the accused.
As Ranjeet Prasad failed to cooperate with investigators and could not be traced at his listed address, the chargesheet has been submitted in absentia after initiating proceedings under Section 512 of the CrPC.
