Dubai: President Masoud Pezeshkian apologized for Iran’s attacks on regional countries, insisting that Tehran would halt them and suggesting they were caused by miscommunication in the ranks.
Pezeshkian made the statement in a prerecorded address aired by state television after repeated attacks Saturday morning on Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Qatar’s defense ministry in a statement said armed forces have repelled a missile attack, right after Pezeshkian’s statement was released.
“I must apologize on my own behalf and on behalf of Iran to the neighboring countries that were attacked by Iran,” said Pezeshkian in a speech broadcast by state TV.
Pezeshkian said its temporary leadership council had approved the suspension of attacks against neighboring countries unless an attack on Iran came from those countries.
“The interim leadership council agreed yesterday that no more attacks will be made on neighboring countries and no missiles will be fired unless an attack on Iran originates from those countries.”
Iran’s president also said that a demand by the United States for an unconditional surrender is a “dream that they should to take to their grave.”
