Lahore: Peshawar Zalmi have lifted the title of the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League, defeating Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets in the final at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.
The high-reward victory helped Zalmi clinch their second PSL title, ending a nine-year wait as they first got their hands on the prestigious silverware in 2017 under the leadership of West Indies great Darren Sammy. It also marked the first-ever major trophy for star batter Babar Azam as the captain.
Batting first, Hyderabad Kingsmen scored 129 runs and were all out in 18.0 overs.
Set to chase a modest 130-run target, Zalmi eventually knocked the winning runs comfortably for the loss of five wickets and 28 balls to spare.
Saim Ayub played a responsible innings and remained the top scorer with 54 runs. For Peshawar Zalmi, Aaron Hardie delivered an impressive bowling performance, claiming four wickets, while Nahid Rana took two wickets.
In reply, Peshawar Zalmi chased down the target in 15.2 overs for the loss of five wickets. Aaron Hardie with 56 runs not out, and Abdul Samad with 48 runs remained the main scorers.
