Srinagar: Eid Al-Adha will be celebrated on Wednesday May 27 after the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah was sighted on Sunday evening in Kashmir.
Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi said that the testimony regarding the sighting of the moon was received from Kargil and parts of J&K.
He said that as a result, the month of Dhul Hijjah (1447 A.H) will commence from Monday, May 18, 2026.
The Grand Mufti further stated that Eid-ul-Adha will be observed on May 27, 2026 (Wednesday).
Saudi Arabia also announced that Monday, May 18, is the first day of Dhul Hijjah after the crescent moon was sighted in the Kingdom.
The announcement sets in motion the sequence of important dates observed by Muslims worldwide, including Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha.
The sighting of the crescent marks the start of the month in which Hajj takes place.
The pinnacle of the pilgrimage, the day of Arafat, will take place on Tuesday May 26.
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam and every Muslim is expected to undertake the pilgrimage at least once in their lives if they have physical and financial capacity.
