Srinagar: A 65 year old woman died after suffering an electric shock in the Naid Kadal area of Srinagar on Monday amid heavy rainfall, officials said.
According to officials, the woman came into contact with a live electric current after touching an electric pole during the downpour. She sustained critical injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
The deceased has been identified as Shamima Makhdoomi, 65, wife of Ghulam Nabi and a resident of Naid Kadal.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Meanwhile, heavy rain lashed several parts of Kashmir on Monday, while some areas also witnessed hailstorms. The intense downpour caused widespread waterlogging across parts of Srinagar, particularly in the old city, where several localities were inundated following the accumulation of rainwater.
