Srinagar School Develops Digital Student Tracking System For Parents

Srinagar: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Rajbagh, Srinagar, has introduced a digital student tracking system that instantly notifies parents when their daughters enter or leave the school premises.

The system, known as the “Student Smart Card”, has been developed within the school to strengthen student safety and improve communication between the institution and parents.

Principal Rajinder Kour said that parents automatically receive a message on their mobile phones the moment a student arrives at the school. A second message is generated when the student leaves the campus, informing parents of the exact departure time.

She said the initiative has received an overwhelming response from parents, who have appreciated the system for enabling them to monitor their children’s attendance without having to contact the school.

Explaining the idea behind the innovation, the Principal said the concept emerged after a student reported late to school one day, prompting concern over student safety and the need for a reliable mechanism to keep parents informed in real time.

She said the idea was later translated into reality by teacher Avinash Bhat, who possesses expertise in information technology and developed the system after working on the concept.

Avinash Bhat said the technology has simplified communication between the school and parents by providing instant attendance updates, thereby eliminating anxiety regarding students’ arrival and departure.

Educationists have described the initiative as a practical use of technology to enhance student safety and parental involvement in schools.

Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Rajbagh, has emerged as one of the leading educational institutions in the Valley. The school recently recorded outstanding academic results, with more than 60 per cent of its students securing distinction in the Class 10, 11 and 12 examinations. [KNT]
