Baramulla: One person was killed and four others were injured in a mysterious explosion near Asha Post at Sumli Wali Dhok, close to the Line of Control (LoC), under the jurisdiction of Gulmarg Police Station on Saturday, officials said.
According to initial reports, the deceased was identified as Zabir Ahmad Bajad, son of Mohammad Rafiq Bajad and a resident of Galibal in Chandoosa, Baramulla. He died on the spot in the blast.
The four injured persons were shifted for medical treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the explosion.
According to a senior police officer, the blast occurred when the victim allegedly handled an old shell.
Authorities are yet to confirm the exact nature of the explosive device or the circumstances that led to the explosion.
