Shopian: The District Magistrate, Shopian, has imposed a complete ban on bursting firecrackers after 10:00 PM across the district, citing concerns over public safety, health risks, noise pollution and security.
According to an official order, bursting firecrackers and fireworks during late night hours has become a serious concern, triggering panic among residents, disturbing public peace, and creating confusion during anti terror operations conducted by security forces.
The order states that the high intensity noise produced by firecrackers adversely affects elderly people, infants, patients, and students. It also contributes to respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular complications, and sleep deprivation. Additionally, sudden explosions during the night can hamper the operational efficiency and alertness of security personnel deployed in the district.
In view of these concerns, the District Magistrate has prohibited the bursting of all types of fireworks, including aerial fireworks and series crackers, commonly known as laris, by any person within the territorial limits of Shopian district after 10:00 PM.
The order has come into effect immediately and will remain in force for two months unless withdrawn earlier or extended through a fresh order. The administration said the directive has been issued ex parte due to the urgent nature of the situation and is applicable to the general public.
The District Magistrate warned that anyone found violating the order will face action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with other applicable legal provisions.
The administration said the order will be widely publicized through print and electronic media and displayed at government offices across the district to ensure public awareness.
