Srinagar- Jammu and Kashmir Grand Mufti, Nasir-ul-Islam Friday said that the crescent moon has not been sighted, thus, the first day of Ramadan will be on Sunday (March 02).
The Grand Mufti said that no witnesses or evidences were received from anywhere about the sighting of Ramadan moon today. “Therefore, the first day of fasting will be on Sunday,” he said.
Following a meeting at Jama Masjid, Delhi, Markazi Royat-E-Hilal of Committee of India also confirmed that no credible reports of moon sightings were received from any part of the country. Based on Islamic tradition, the first fast will therefore be observed on Sunday.
The crescent moon was not sighted on Friday evening, Pakistan’s Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced.
However, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries will begin fasting from Saturday as the crescent moon has been sighted there.
