Srinagar: A fake ticket racket has been exposed in Gulmarg, raising concerns over fraudulent activities targeting unsuspecting tourists.
The Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation Ltd., responsible for managing the Gulmarg Gondola Project, has officially filed a complaint with the local police, demanding strict action against those involved in the scam.
According to the complaint submitted to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Gulmarg, ticketing staff at the G1 station intercepted three tourists around 10:30 AM on March 17, 2025. The tourists were found in possession of counterfeit gondola tickets that didn’t match their identities. Upon questioning, the tourists admitted they had bought the fake tickets from a local guide named Firdous Ahmad.
Manzoor-ul-Haq Nazki, the in-charge of e-ticketing for the Gulmarg Gondola, confirmed the scam and stated that the tourists had been misled. A written complaint was obtained from the tourists, and the authorities have called for a comprehensive police investigation to identify the culprits behind the fake ticket operation.
The complaint emphasizes the need for strict action to prevent such incidents and protect tourists from being exploited. It also calls for measures to preserve the integrity of the Gulmarg Gondola service and restore public trust in the ticketing system.
This is not the first time fake ticket rackets have been discovered in Gulmarg, underscoring the persistence of such scams despite previous efforts to crack down on them.(KNT)
