Srinagar: Heavy gusty winds swept across various parts of Kashmir on Friday night, causing widespread damage to vehicles, rooftops, and power infrastructure.
Several areas reported significant property damage as authorities rushed to assess the impact and initiate restoration efforts.
In Srinagar city, strong winds completely destroyed a vehicle near the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC), witnesses said. The vehicle suffered severe damage after debris fell on it due to the storm. Additionally, multiple electric cables were snapped, leading to power disruptions in several areas.
The electricity supply was affected in multiple localities, with officials working to restore services. However, no casualties have been reported so far, an official confirmed.
In Habbak, Srinagar, a rooftop collapsed after high-tension (HT) power lines fell on it, exacerbating the damage and causing further disruptions. Fire and Emergency Services personnel quickly reached the spot to assess the situation and begin relief operations.
Elsewhere, in Ganderbal, strong winds battered the area, damaging rooftops and outdoor structures. High-speed winds also caused turbulence in local water bodies, triggering waves that added to the destruction.
Authorities have placed emergency response teams on high alert to manage any further damage or disruptions. Residents have been advised to stay indoors and take necessary precautions as strong winds persist in some areas.(JKNS)
