Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister on Monday criticized the Srinagar Smart City project, calling it a “complete failure,” and announced that a fresh survey would be conducted to assess waterlogging and traffic congestion issues plaguing the city.
The Chief Minister made these remarks while inaugurating a new block at the Bone and Joint Hospital in Barzulla, Srinagar.
He stressed that without overhauling the healthcare and education sectors, any talk of overall development in Jammu and Kashmir would be incomplete. “Power projects, roads, and other works come later,” he said.
Speaking about the Bone and Joint Hospital, the CM lauded the resilience of the institution, which has continued to provide services despite facing severe challenges. “It was completely submerged during the 2014 floods, and again in 2022, a major fire destroyed one of its main buildings — yet services never stopped,” he noted.
The Chief Minister’s remarks highlight a growing concern over the urban planning and infrastructure initiatives under the Smart City Mission, particularly in Srinagar, where frequent waterlogging and traffic snarls remain unresolved.
