SRINAGAR: Kashmir witnessed 2500 fire incidents with 1700 structures suffering damage and 37 people losing their lives in 2022 as reported by Daily Excelsior.
According to information provided by the Fire & Emergency Services Jammu based newspaper Daily Excelsior reported that the city of Srinagar witnessed highest number of fire incidents, resulting in 414 structures being damaged and 5 persons losing their lives.
In terms of a district-by-district breakdown, Srinagar registered 566 fire events between January 2022 and December 2022, which resulted in the damage of 414 buildings, 33 stores, and 13 shopping centres.
Five persons were also killed and three others were injured in Srinagar during this time. In the district, 59 electric transformers were also involved in the incidents and 14 cars also suffered damage as a result of fire events.
In Budgam, officials said, 219 fire incidents were reported in which 112 structures were damaged including 10 shops and 12 shopping complexes. 6 vehicles and 15 electric transformers were also damaged in the fire incidents.
Similarly, in Anantnag, 271 fire incidents were reported in which 3 people lost their lives while 2 others were injured. 219 structures were also damaged including 44 shops, 2 shopping complexes, 4 vehicles and 12 electric transformers.
During last year, in district Kupwara, 328 fire incidents were reported in which 4 people lost their lives and 7 were injured. During the period, 221 structures were also damaged including 84 shops, 6 vehicles and 20 electric transformers.
In Pulwama, 219 fire incidents were reported during the period in which 6 persons lost their lives and 111 structures were left damaged. At the same, 27 shops, 3 shopping complexes, 4 vehicles and 9 electric transformers also sustained damage.
The details further revealed that Shopian recorded lowest cases of fire incidents during the last year, In the 94 fire incidents reported 4 people lost their lives while 77 structures, 12 shops, 1 vehicle and 7 electric transformers were severely damaged.
Ganderbal recorded 173 fire incidents have been in which one person lost his life while 85 structures, 15 shops, 3 vehicles and 10 electric transformers suffered the damage.
Baramulla has witnessed 406 fire incidents during the last year, in which 4 people lost their lives while 241 structures including 6 shops, 6 shopping complexes, 8 vehicles and 14 electric transformers sustained damage.
Kulgam recorded highest number people losing lives in the fire incidents, In the total of 145 fire incidents reported, 9 people lost their lives while 99 structures, 16 shops, 2 shopping complexes, 2 vehicles and 9 electric transformers sustained damage.
Lastly, in Bandipora, 163 fire incidents were reported during the period in which one person lost his life while 120 structures were damaged including, 20 shops, 1 shopping complex, 7 vehicles and 3 electric transformers, reported Daily Excelsior.
