Srinagar: The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) on Monday issued an advisory to ensure the safety of school-going students and staff amid inclement weather conditions across the Valley.
According to the notification, the advisory has been issued in light of recent cloudburst incidents. All Chief Education Officers and Heads of Institutions (HoIs) have been directed to implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to safeguard students and staff.
Heightened Vigilance
HoIs, particularly in areas vulnerable to natural disasters, have been asked to maintain heightened vigilance. Staff are to be sensitized and trained in safety protocols related to heavy rainfall, flash floods, and cloudbursts.
Precautionary Measures Near Water Bodies
Schools located close to rivers, streams, and lakes have been directed to remain on high alert. The advisory stresses the need for:
Monitoring: Continuous monitoring of water levels and weather forecasts.
Evacuation Plans: Clear, well-rehearsed evacuation plans with designated safe areas.
Communication: Regular coordination with local authorities and disaster management agencies.
Accountability
The order emphasizes that the cooperation of school staff is crucial to ensuring student safety. Any failure to comply with the directives will be treated as a serious lapse. The responsibility for any incident arising from non-compliance will rest solely with the concerned Head of Institution, the order added.
